Our Experimentation & Design stream (edited by Evan Torner) focuses on the impact of rules, mechanics, presentation and similar design decisions on the flow and meaning of analog games. Submissions in this stream exemplify formalist attempts at understanding games – that’s the design bit. But we also encourage authors to publish shorter game rule texts and thought experiments to illustrate specific design points – that’s the experimentation bit. This stream lets designers, academics, and players share their ideas with regard to how a game’s layout and function help determine what that game might mean.
